Cyberpunk 2077 continues its downward spiral on old consoles. The game released to mostly negative reviews for PlayStation and Xbox One which prompted a new refund system from CD Projekt Red.  CDPR allegedly wasn't aware of how bad the old-generation versions of Cyberpunk 2077 were up until its release. A string of shady practices surrounding Cyberpunk's PS4 and XBO versions have led to Sony taking drastic measures on its digital storefront.

The wrong Station

Sony Interactive Entertainment promised to give its players refunds on the recently-released game on PS4 (or on PS5). PlayStation owners can still play the game if they purchased a copy near its release. Sony has taken a stand against the poor quality of the port by indefinitely removing it from the store. Players can process their refunds here. Sony had this to say regarding their decision.

“SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.”

It's hard to justify the quality of the game even with CDPR's boundless goodwill backing it up. Fans keep vehemently defending the game but it is clearly just not meant to be played on PS4 or XBO. Sony's decision followed CD Projekt Red offering refunds earlier this week. It'd be wise to steer clear from the trainwreck of a port that has fans and reviewers cringing around the world.

This isn't to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is a bad game but it clearly says something about CDPR's mishandling of their development. The game was clearly not optimized to be playable on older platforms and people just need to stay away from it. Cyberpunk 2077 could potentially make a return to Sony's storefront but it needs a lot of work before it can demand money from loyal players.
