It looks like CD Projekt Red (CDPR) didn't realize how bad their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077 were until the game launched.

In an unscheduled investors call, IGN reports, senior members of CDPR discussed issues they had at the game's launch. When asked whether or not the development team felt pressured to release the game before the end of 2020, SVP of business development, Michał Nowakowski replied,

“I wouldn’t say that we felt any external or internal pressure to launch on the date – other than the normal pressure, which is typical for any release.”

Apparently, the CDPR simply didn't spend enough time doing quality assurance for Cyberpunk 2077's console versions. “It is more about us looking,” says Nowakowski, “at the PC and next-gen performance rather than current-gen. We definitely did not spend enough time looking at that.” Later on, Nowakowski reveals that, if situations were different and, probably, if they had known about the issues beforehand, CDPR could have released just the PC version.

Meanwhile, some investors were interested in how a broken game could have been released on consoles in the first place. Why did Sony and Microsoft allow CDPR to push on with Cyberpunk 2077's release? It was trust, apparently, that led to an unhampered launch. “I can only assume that they trusted that we’re going to fix things upon release,” says Nowakowski.

Nowakowski was one of the senior members of CDPR who issued a public apology for the buggy console release of Cyberpunk 2077. In this apology, CDPR outlined their plans to fix the issues with the game. However, within the same statement, CDPR also offered refunds to all unsatisfied customers until December 21, 2020. Critics and normal gamers alike gave Cyberpunk 2077 very negative reviews.
