Gibson has reportedly worked out for seven different teams in recent weeks.</p><p>The Knicks have nearly $18 million in cap space.</p><p>One season after helping lead the Dallas Mavericks to an NBA championship in 2011, Chandler was traded to the Knicks just prior to the 2011-12 season. He immediately became a key piece alongside Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, and was an essential defensive cog on multiple playoff teams.</p><p>Tyson Chandler made his only All-Star appearance while playing for the Knicks, in 2011-12, and he won the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year that season, too.</p><p>In three seasons in NYC, Chandler averaged 10.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game, while shooting 63.8% from the field.</p><p>The 38-year-old center played for the Houston Rockets in 2019-20, his 19th NBA season. Chandler appeared in 26 games for Houston.</p><p>Despite the injuries, the Knicks (5-3) have produced perhaps the most surprising start of any team in the NBA, as Thibodeau already has his group playing harder and smarter than they did last season.</p><p>After their comeback win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, the Knicks have won five of six games, including multiple victories of Eastern Conference playoff teams.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Pundits expected Houston to field Chandler against the massive Los Angeles Lakers frontline in the second round of the 2020 playoffs.</p><p>That idea, of course, did not materialize as he was given a DNP in the Rockets’ 11 postseason games. It also didn’t;t help that Chandler plays like a traditional center, which is slowly becoming a dying breed in today’s modernized game.</p><p>Now in the twilight of his NBA career, Chandler would likely just sign with a strong title contender in hopes of getting his second NBA championship before he calls it quits. Granted he won’t be playing much given the milage on his aging body, Chandler would still provide a strong locker room presence needed to win a title in this league.</p><p>Unlike in seasons past where he was once considered a top free-agent prospect, Chandler would be lucky to get a veteran’s minimum this year. The one-time NBA champion, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-lebron-james-does-best-magic-johnson-impression-game-1-world-series/" rel="noopener noreferrer">however, would likely</a> still have some suitors looking to add size in their interior.</p><p>Let’s have a look at three of the most ideal landing spots for Tyson Chandler.</p><h2><b>Brooklyn Nets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Los_Angeles_expected_to_sign_Tyson_Chandler-1024x536.jpg"><figcaption>CP</figcaption></figure><p>The Nets are widely expected to become instant contenders next season with superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving back to 100 percent. Brooklyn currently has its bigs department covered, with DeAndre Jordan and Jarett Allen anchoring the middle.</p><p>However, Allen’s name has been linked to multiple trade rumors in the Nets’ bid to acquire a third superstar. DJ, meanwhile, has dealt with several injuries over the last few seasons. Chandler should be a good (not to mention cheap) insurance piece for Brooklyn next season.</p><p>The one-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner is still a formidable post defender and rim protector that could bang bodies with the behemoths of the East. Durant and Irving would certainly appreciate having a proven vet in their bid to live up to the lofty expectations next season.</p><p>Chandler is also quite adept in the pick-and-roll during his Hornets days with Chris Paul. Irving, of course, is one of the best playmakers of this generation and Chandler would complement Uncle Drew’s strengths. The same goes for KD, who could use an enforcer like Chandler to have his back each night.</p><h2><b>Los Angeles Clippers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Tyson_Chandler_unlikely_to_play_remainder_of_2017-18_NBA_season-1024x536.jpg"></figure><p>The Clippers do need some big bodies next year with the inevitable exit of Sixth Man of The Year winner Motrezl Harrell. Their experiment with Joakim Noah also did not work, so they might as well try their luck with Chandler.</p><p>The one-time All-NBA Defensive Team member was actually selected by the Clippers second overall in the 2001 Draft before dealing him to the Bulls for Elton Brand. Chandler is also no stranger to LA, having played for the Lakers in 2018-19.</p><p>Ivica Zubac has done a solid job as the Clippers’ starter so far, but no doubt he could develop further under Chandler’s mentorship.</p><p>Plus, the Dominguez-high school product’s gritty personality fits perfectly alongside the Clippers’ current ensemble. The Clippers had the perimeter locked down last year with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Patrick Beverley harassing passing lanes. Tyson Chandler could help shore out the paint and make the Clippers’ defensive unit even more formidable.</p><h2><b>Golden State Warriors</b></h2><figure><img src="https://clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Tyson-Chandler-says-Suns-bought-him-out-because-_they-weren_t-gonna-play_-him-1024x576.jpg"></figure><p>The Warriors obviously have their eye on more high-profile names in their big man search. Chandler, however, will be a good option if all else fails. Plus, the 19-year vet would likely be open to a huge pay-cut for an opportunity to join the storied Warriors franchise.</p><p>Dubs head coach Steve Kerr already admitted that his team needs all the help it can get with their current frontline situation. While the 38-year-old center is no longer the spring chicken he once was, Chandler still brings all the intangibles that Warriors centers possessed in the past.</p><p>During their dynasty, the Warriors always had lumbering giants like JaVale McGee and Andrew Bogut who can set screens, catch lobs, coral rebounds, and block shots.</p><p>That’s pretty much Chandler’s bread-and-butter throughout his entire pro career. The Warriors do play at a punishing pace and it remains to be seen if Tyson Chandler can keep up with this on a nightly basis. It’s just that we made some business decisions after the lockout that hurt us a little bit in the long run. With [Steve Nash], I think that was tough. I think Mark [Cuban] felt like his back was not going to hold up for six-plus years or whatever Phoenix offered him and he where I thought for sure we should’ve kept him,” the Mavs legend shared.</blockquote><p>The Mavs had an incredible run in the early 2000s’, as Nash set up the table for the franchise’s best scorers in Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley. Prior to the 2003-04 season, Nash tried to negotiate a long-term deal to stay in Texas. Owner Mark Cuban, however, was reluctant to break the bank for Nash who was turning 30 years old at the time.</p><p>Nash packed his bags and signed a six-year, $63 million contract with the Phoenix Suns, where he would win two MVP awards.</p><p>The Chandler situation, on the other hand, was truly a head-scratcher for Dallas at the time. The seven-foot center was a vital part of the Mavs’ title run in 2011. Many believed that locking Chandler to a long-term deal was simply a no-brainer in the summer of 2011.</p><p>Cuban was reportedly wary of a new collective bargaining agreement at the time and only offered the defensive ace a two-year deal, which Chandler declined. He was traded to the New York Knicks where he received a four-year, $58 million contract.</p><p>Despite these shortcomings, Nowitzki stands by the Mavs’ front office and lauded them for the marvelous job they’ve done throughout his stay.</p><blockquote>“Sometimes you make business decisions that you regret later and sometimes you get lucky with some, as we did in 2011 with some of the guys that I mentioned… Those are two tough decisions we made as a franchise but with Donnie [Nelson], of course we also made some great decisions over my 20-plus years just to be in a position where we can win 50-plus games over 10 years. For him, his biggest NBA inspiration was Kevin Garnett.</p><p><a href="https://theundefeated.com/features/tyson-chandler-hell-no-i-never-could-have-envisioned-being-around-this-long/">The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears</a> wrote about Tyson Chandler’s perspective of being in the league and the various experiences he picked up along the way. He talked about the impact Garnett had on his career as a player.</p><blockquote>“Kevin Garnett was the measuring stick. He’s everything that I wanted to be. Everything I looked up to. He’s what everybody in my generation was reaching for. He was just an animal. He inspired me from high school. When I was in the gym by myself, he was at the top. There were others that I got motivation from, but he was at the top of the list. Whenever I got tired, I would picture him in my head, picture him dog-tired, and picture him pushing through it to get to where he is.</blockquote><p>Garnett was a dominant forward who became the prototype of what a modern NBA big man is during the 2000s. He averaged 17.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists throughout his 22 seasons in the league. He was a force to be reckoned with during his days with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but it was with the Boston Celtics where the future Hall of Famer won his first and only NBA title.</p><p>While Chandler didn’t end up being a league-dominating big man the way his idol was, he has become a solid rock that teams could rely on. He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-tyson-chandler-thinks-he-should-have-retired-mav/">was the force down the middle</a> that stopped LeBron James and company from winning the 2011 NBA Finals. So much so that he actually thinks he should have finished his career in Dallas.</p><p>Chandler and the Mavs won an NBA title in 2011, an accomplishment he says “means everything.” Alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas managed to knock off LeBron James and the Miami Heat in six games. It was Chandler’s first — and so far only — championship.</p><p>The Rockets veteran still thinks about that Mavs team:</p><blockquote>“Do I think, ‘What if?’ with the Dallas team? Absolutely,” Chandler said, <a href="https://theundefeated.com/features/tyson-chandler-hell-no-i-never-could-have-envisioned-being-around-this-long/" rel="noopener noreferrer">via Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated</a>.“My championship with Dallas in 2011 means everything,” Chandler added. “I keep the ring in my safe. I bring it out every once in a while. Once I settle down and retire, I will probably enjoy the accolades a little more than I do now.”</blockquote><p>In a moment that will go down in Mavs infamy, team owner Mark Cuban decided to break up his championship-winning team after the 2011 campaign. Chandler was a hot item on the market, but Dallas only offered him a two-year deal, which he declined. Chandler later noted his belief that the Mavs could have won back-to-back titles had they stayed together:</p><blockquote>“If you ask me, I should have finished my career in Dallas,” Chandler said, <a href="https://theundefeated.com/features/tyson-chandler-hell-no-i-never-could-have-envisioned-being-around-this-long/" rel="noopener noreferrer">via The Undefeated</a>. “I should have played the last 10 years, and play 20 years, and finished there. But I also feel like everything happens for a reason. My journey was a hell of a journey. And I wouldn’t change it.”</blockquote><p>Chandler joined the Rockets prior to the start of this season, signing a one-year deal. He’s enjoying his time in Houston, and he feels the team has what it takes to make a postseason run:</p><blockquote>“It’s been so much fun playing for the Rockets,” Chandler told The Undefeated. “This is where the league is today. I feel like I’m with the best guys to do it in this style of basketball in James Harden and Russell Westbrook. It’s fun to be on this side and see it firsthand what they’re doing. And I just feel like this is the window for this team.”</blockquote><p>Chandler missed a bit of time earlier this season due to pain in his ribs and spasms in his shoulder. He has since recovered, but the Rockets haven’t given him much playing time (five starts in 24 games played). The Compton native serves mostly as a mentor on the bench, though he is still a capable player.</p><p>The Rockets will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Saturday, when they’ll serve as hosts to the Lakers.
