There’s only one way that Le’Veon Bell will get out of the control of the Pittsburgh Steelers this season: via a trade.

It has already been reported that the Steelers have fielded trade overtures for Bell from other teams, most notably the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, and San Francisco 49ers. However, none of these trade talks have been serious enough for the Steelers to ship Le’Veon Bell, who has yet to sign the one-year $14.5 million franchise tag offer from Pittsburgh.

But in light of reports that Bell is set to end his holdout during the Steelers’ Week 7 bye, Adam Schefter of ESPN reenergized the rumors that the Steelers are still willing to trade the running back.

Pittsburgh still is expected to be interested in listening to trade offers for RB Le'Veon Bell, per league sources. Bell now planning to report later this month would not dissuade the Steelers from making a deal that made sense.

In a separate report, Schefter also noted that the Steelers can keep Le’Veon Bell for at least one more year by using the transition tag on him, though, that’s an option that does not guarantee them control of the running back beyond this season. It only affords the team with the right of first refusal to match an offer Bell could receive on the open market in next year’s free agency.

A lot can still unfold before the Steelers’ saga with Bell will conclude. Although the Steelers have shown a degree of interest in trading Bell, they still would love to have him back on the field as they look to turn things around after a poor 1-2-1 start to the season.
