The Minnesota Timberwolves doubled down on their belief in former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins by offering him a five-year, $148 million contract extension. This comes after the Timberwolves made perhaps their biggest splash in NBA free agency since trading away then All-Star Kevin Love for the very man they want to sign now.

While any other regular person would not have wasted another second to sign a max contract, Wiggins has been somewhat nonchalant about the whole ordeal. In fact, Wiggins says he is in no rush to sign his extension, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Associated Press:

“We've got until a day before the regular season,” Wiggins said. “So there's not really no rush or anything. I feel really good about it.”

There has been speculation as to whether or not it is a bit early to offer Wiggins a max contract with other looming negotiations coming in the near future. The Timberwolves will likely need to give budding superstar Karl-Anthony Towns and All-star Jimmy Butler some lucrative extensions in the next two years.

However, Wiggins has proved to be more deserving of such a contract. Not only has he shown steady improvement each year, he is as durable as they come, having only missed one game in three seasons.
