Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns had a beautiful message for his mother, Jacqueline Cruz, on the one-year anniversary of her death.

Towns included an Instagram collage with various pictures with his mother both from his childhood and as a grown man. He wrote he missed his mother dearly, but promised to look after the family and pass on the love Cruz shared:

“A year ago my life was forever changed,” Towns wrote. “To the most beautiful woman I will ever know, I love you more than life itself. Every day I miss you more and more, but your endless love and unforgettable memories are what keeps me going. One day, we will walk side by side again but until that beautiful day, I will continue to hold down the amazing family you made. I can never replace you in this family, but I will try my best every day.”

Cruz went into a medically induced coma during her battle with COVID-19. She died just three weeks later.

The loss of his mother was unfortunately not the end of the suffering for Karl-Anthony Towns. He later revealed he lost seven family members to the virus.

Karl-Anthony Towns has been very open about his mindset and some of the difficulties he has had focusing on basketball, all of which is quite understandable given just how much he has been through.

The 25-year-old will not play in Tuesday's game against the Brooklyn Nets as he takes time to remember his late mother. The Timberwolves did something truly special honoring Karl-Anthony Towns late mother by reserving a seat for her.
