The Minnesota Timberwolves could be breaking out the big bucks this offseason. Karl-Anthony Towns was named a member of the All-NBA Third Team for his superstar caliber performance this year. KAT averaged 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists this season. As a member of the All-NBA Third Team, Towns is now eligible for a supermax contract extension.

But what are the chances he gets it?

Nothing has been finalized yet and, for now, it's all speculation. However, recent whispers around the NBA don't seem to be going in KAT's favor.

According to Bleacher Report, many anonymous sources sound doubtful.

The news outlet reports that one executive said he'll likely get a contract extension in Minnesota, but not at the supermax level.

“It’s hard to get players in Minnesota. Maybe he tries to negotiate less than a supermax, but what leverage does he have?”

An anonymous NBA scout from a Western Conference team told B/R that, in their opinion, Towns doesn't deserve the supermax extension. “Quite frankly, I wouldn’t give him the supermax. I don’t think he deserves it. He hasn’t done anything to become a supermax guy. He’s super talented, but he’s kind of flaky.”

The scout does have a point. KAT really hasn't done anything groundbreaking for the Timberwolves. Since he joined the team in 2015, they've only been to the playoffs twice, losing in the first round both times.
