As the US Open continues, Jordan Thompson is only starting to excel, though a relatively large challenge looms on the horizon for the talented 26-year-old from Australia.

Having whooped and walloped the competition so far, the Sydney product reached the final 16 after defeating Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin in straight sets in the third round on Saturday morning. Now entering the fourth round of the US Open, Jordan Thompson will face Borna Coric next.

Nonetheless, as most would admit Thompson is the underdog, his father claims he’s not only self-aware, but the kind of person who will embrace the role.

“He’s definitely going to be the underdog and he always played well when he’s the underdog before,” Stephen Thompson said of his son.

“He loves competing – he’s always been a competitor, no matter what sport he plays. He likes the confrontation one on one where he can get into it. If he gets a chance, he’ll definitely take it, for sure.”
