Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are moving to a new arena in San Francisco for the start of the 2019-20 NBA season, but it's clear that the three-time champion still holds the city of Oakland in high regard.

Curry and his wife, Ayesha, attended the Oakland Block Party on Sunday, which was hosted by rapper Mistah F.A.B. According to a report from Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, the family was at the event for “a couple of hours” without the company of security personnel:

“Man, he is the greatest,” Mistah F.A.B. told The Undefeated. “He told me he was coming, but it’s nothing like him actually being here with his wife and no security. They trusted me and knew that I’d never let as much as a fingernail chip come off his hand.”

Mistah F.A.B. told The Undefeated that it would be an “easy call” for the city of Oakland to erect a statue in honor of Curry, and the rapper even made a bold claim about just how much the two-time MVP means to the city:

“Man, the kids couldn’t believe he was there. He means as much if not more to Oakland than what Michael Jordan meant to Chicago.”

As part of his appearance at Sunday's block party in Oakland, Curry teamed up with Mistah F.A.B. on an outdoor court for a game of street ball:

For several reasons, Curry has become a beloved figure in the city of Oakland. He opened a nonprofit foundation at Oakland’s Lake Merritt in July. The foundation, which is called Eat. Learn. Play., will work with youth in the area in the fields of nutrition, education and recreation.

Curry and the Warriors finished the 2018-19 regular-season campaign with a 57-25 overall record, which earned the team a No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. Unfortunately, though, Golden State was defeated by the Toronto Raptors in the championship round, 4-2.
