While the New York Yankees have started playing better baseball as of late, they've been hit with a wave of COVID-19 cases. Thankfully though, it hasn't infected any actual players yet.

According to the MLB Network's Jon Heyman, five coaches have been diagnosed with the virus.

While this isn't ideal by any means, all the coaches have reportedly been vaccinated and aren't dealing with any symptoms. However, this whole situation could potentially postpone the first of a three-game set on Tuesday night against AL East rivals, Tampa Bay.

The Yankees just took two out of three from the Nationals and have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games. The bats have been coming alive, with Giancarlo Stanton clubbing three homers in his last six contests. DJ LaMehieu has also been raking lately, collecting five hits in the Washington series.

It's unknown at this point which coaches actually have COVID-19. If manager Aaron Boone has tested positive, that could really complicate things as well. This comes just after the MLB announced that New York was eligible to back off on COVID-19 protocols due to 85% of the organization being vaccinated.

The Yankees need to get on top of this instantly because they certainly can't afford a full-blown outbreak. With these variants floating around, who knows what's possible.
