Yankees star Gerrit Cole continued his early season struggles Tuesday night, leaving the game in just the second inning. Despite being on the road in Detroit, Yankees fans made their feelings loud and clear as Cole exited the mound in a video.

While Cole only ended up allowing two runs on the evening, things got real ugly in the second inning. In his 1.2 innings, he allowed just one hit, yet walked five batters. Clarke Schmidt was able to come on and strike out the last batter of the inning, leaving the bases loaded. While the conditions were not ideal, another below-average start for Cole has to be of some concern.

Cole's had a horrible start to the season, as he possesses a 6.35 ERA in three starts. Perhaps of most concern, Cole has pitched just 11.1 innings. Starting pitchers don't go as deep into games anymore, but those are still disappointing numbers. This is without mentioning the fact that he's in the midst of a nine-year, $324 million deal.

Cole's struggles have been reflective of the Yankees team as a whole, as they entered Tuesday with a 5-5 record. They remain just one game behind the AL East leaders Blue Jays though, and the season is still fresh. The Yanks will need more production from Cole if they want to make a run this season.

While the conversations about his contract sometimes get over-mentioned, it's bound to happen when a guy is making that much money. Overall, not great early season signs for the Yankees and their supposed ace.
