The Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Atlanta Braves. Our MLB odds series has our Diamondbacks Braves prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Diamondbacks Braves.

The Arizona Diamondbacks played three tough ballgames against the New York Yankees. They almost won the series, but fell short by one run in extra innings. The last pitch of the game was a third-strike call with the tying run at third and the winning run at second. The pitch was at least two if not three inches outside. The Diamondbacks didn't get the result they wanted, and they had a right to feel wronged, but they did compete well against a loaded Yankee team which has gotten off to a great start. Through one week of play, the Diamondbacks look like a good team with a decent chance of making the playoffs despite playing in what could be the toughest and deepest division in baseball. The Los Angeles Dodgers are an obvious and unquestioned heavyweight. The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres are loaded with talent. The D-Backs will have their hands full in the National League West, but they do seem to be a team which can compete well and win close to 90 games.

The Diamondbacks, having just encountered one big challenge, now move directly into another. They face the juggernaut Atlanta Braves on the road. The Braves, like the Dodgers, seem to be a team which will have a hard time winning fewer than 95 games. Atlanta will probably win over 100, as it did last season. It is hard to find a single MLB team with a deeper, more balanced and ruthless batting order than the Braves, who have a good coaching system and elite players who thrive within the framework put forth by the organization. The Braves have had a miserable time getting past the Philadelphia Phillies in the playoffs, but they have been a regular-season beast the past few seasons. An authoritative series win over the D-Backs would re-establish Atlanta as the favorite many people think it should be in the National League.

Why The Diamondbacks Could Cover The Spread

The Diamondbacks have continued to compete well in the early part of this season. This does not look like a team which is suffering a post-World Series hangover from 2023. The Diamondbacks have made roster additions such as Eugenio Suarez who will beef up the batting order and help Arizona precisely for games such as this one in which the team might need to score five or more runs against a good team. Arizona won't be intimidated by the Braves.

Why The Braves Could Cover The Spread

The Diamondbacks won't have one of their staff aces in this game. Tommy Henry gets the call for the defending National League champions. Compare that to Atlanta ace Spencer Strider, and you have a fairly easy recipe for a Braves win complete with a cover on the run line as well.

In addition to the pitching matchup, the Braves are playing their home opener. They had a rainout in Chicago against the White Sox, so they will enter this game rested and fresh. It is set up for Atlanta to perform at an elite level.

Final Diamondbacks-Braves Prediction & Pick

The D-Backs are good, but the Braves are better and have the superior starting pitcher. Take the Braves.

Final Diamondbacks-Braves Prediction & Pick: Braves -1.5
