The New York Jets Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills might be the most highly anticipated contest on the upcoming schedule. Aaron Rodgers will make his Gang Green debut in the Jets-Bills game, and our Jets' Week 1 predictions suggest that the quarterback could get off to a rocky start.

The Jets' trade for Aaron Rodgers was the biggest move of the 2023 NFL offseason. If you believe in many of the Jets' predictions, the deal turned New York into a Super Bowl contender. The Jets own the longest active playoff drought in all of American professional team sports. Rodgers and one of the league's best defenses is expected to challenge the Bills for the 2023 AFC East title.

The Bills have dominated the AFC East since Tom Brady left the New England Patriots, winning three straight division championships. Buffalo is favored to finish in first place for a fourth straight year. Despite the addition of Rodgers, Josh Allen remains the best quarterback in arguably the NFL's best division.

All eyes will be on MetLife Stadium when the rivals meet on Monday Night Football. If New York hopes to supplant Buffalo atop the division, it probably has to beat the Bills at home. Here's a look at our three Jets' Week 1 predictions.

Note that these are bold Jets predictions. It's a long shot that all three predictions will come to fruition, yet the outcomes are more likely than the odds would suggest.

3. Jets QB Aaron Rodgers will throw not one, but two interceptions in Week 1

It could take a few weeks for Rodgers to find his footing in New York. Even though the wide receiver group includes a few familiar faces in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, Rodgers has only been with the Jets for a few months. The quarterback only played two preseason series, and now he'll have to face a tough Bills defense in his first meaningful game with the Jets.

Rodgers didn't exactly develop chemistry with the Green Bay Packers' new-look receiving corps in quick fashion last year. He threw for 195 yards and an interception in the 2022 opener. Don't be surprised if Rodgers' Jets' debut looks similar to Brady's first game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady was picked off twice in a 34-23 loss against the New Orleans Saints.

The Bills have ranked in the top four in interceptions in each of the last two years. Jordan Poyer missed four games in 2022. Tre'Davious White could return to his All-Pro form now that he's nearly two years removed from tearing his ACL. Any quarterback could struggle against Buffalo's defense, let alone one who is making his New York City debut amid the pressure that Rodgers is facing.

2. Bills QB Josh Allen will run for at least 100 yards against the Jets

The Jets have the NFL's best secondary, and it showed in both of their 2022 matchups with the Bills. Allen was limited to 352 passing yards combined in two games against New York. He completed fewer than 60% of his passes in each game. With Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed still anchoring the unit, Allen could have more trouble moving the ball through the air in Week 1.

That means the Bills might have to rely on the ground attack to move the chains. Even with James Cook and Damien Harris in the backfield, Allen is Buffalo's most effective rusher. Look for the Bills' quarterback to show little hesitation in tucking the football and running instead of trying to test the vaunted Jets' secondary.

Allen didn't have a single 100-yard rushing game last season. He came the closest when he ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets on the road.

1. Jets and Bills will combine for 38 points or fewer

If Rodgers is going to struggle and Allen can't find much success against New York's secondary, it only makes sense that the Jets-Bills Week 1 game will be low-scoring. The total for the Jets' Week 1 game is 46.5 at FanDuel Sportsbook. FanDuel's alternate total offers +250 odds for the game to go under 38.5 points.

The AFC East rivals failed to score more than 37 points in either of last year's matchups. New York upset Buffalo at MetLife Stadium 20-17. The Bills took care of business at home later in the season, escaping with a 20-12 win over the Jets.

New York gave up more than 23 points just once in their last 11 games of the 2022 season. The Jets' offensive line is a potential issue in 2023. There's also a world in which Rodgers, who will turn 40 years old this year and is coming off a disappointing campaign, is not much better than an average quarterback.
