The MLB instituted a new policy regarding sticky substances and Seattle Mariners pitcher Hector Santiago was the first victim of the policy as he was tossed from Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Now the MLB has threw down a 10-game suspension for Santiago.

The first suspension of the sort has been officially handed out. While many pitchers and managers have expressed their concerns with the midseason rule change, only Santiago has been ejected and now suspended as the rule is still in its infancy.

However, other star pitchers have been roughed up quite a bit, including Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer, and some have questioned if they were using the substances before the policy was put into place.

As time goes on and the umpires continuously check the gloves during the innings, it will be interesting to see whether or not more suspensions are handed down and more pitchers are caught using the substances.

Unfortunately for Santiago, he is the first one for both and his name will be remembered forever– although certainly not how he wants it to be remembered. The Mariners pitcher made history.

Who will be the next? Only time will tell. But the MLB has found their first culprit, albeit, not exactly one they had imagined.
