It has just been confirmed that the Minnesota Timberwolves will be getting a new set of owners. This comes in the form of baseball legend Alex Rodriguez and American billionaire Marc Lore, who have reportedly reached an agreement with current team owner Glen Taylor on the purchase of the franchise.

This begs the question: will this huge development eventually lead to the Wolves leaving Minnesota? Reports state that this is not going to be the case (h/t Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic):

This does not appear to be a rumor as it comes straight from Taylor himself.

This is great news for the adoring fans in Minnesota who have long been tortured with the idea of their beloved team leaving the city. Taylor himself has grown fond of Minnesota since he purchased the team in 1994 and it looks like he saw to it that the new team owners were not going to relocate the franchise.

One important thing to note here is that Taylor is reportedly staying on board for two more years. He won't be relinquishing control to Rodriguez's group until 2023. Nevertheless, based on Taylor's statement here, it would be safe to assume that the team will still be staying in Minnesota beyond 2023 when the new owners come in.

Two years is still two years, though. So much can happen between then and now. At the end of the day, the NBA is a business, and team owners will act accordingly. Minnesota does not exactly have the biggest of markets, so at this point, there is still always a possibility of a relocation somewhere down the road.
