Very rarely does a game with so much hype and so much attention paid to it not only live up to the expectations but, exceed them. That's exactly what happened on Thursday night between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees at the Field of Dreams game.

One home run after another disappeared into the cornfields in Iowa and then, the Yankees made a jaw-dropping comeback in the 9th inning, scoring 4 runs off two-run homers from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. It put the Yankees up 8-7 entering the bottom of the 9th. Enter White Sox leadoff hitter Tim Anderson.

The White Sox won on Anderson's walk-off, two-run shot and it sent social media into an absolute frenzy as reaction from all sorts of athletes and announcers and others poured in.

Tons of reaction, similar to these, echoed the thoughts by the vast majority of those who tuned in for the game. And baseball got what it desperately needed on Thursday with an abundance of attention and a spotlight to itself.

The Olympics are done, the NBA and NHL are in the offseason and the NFL is just starting the preseason. MLB was propped up last night and the Field of Dreams game could not have been more dramatic, more unpredictable, and more of a wild roller coaster ride if it wanted to be. The White Sox won the game, baseball won as a whole.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said earlier on Thursday that the game would be returning for next year. Given how the White Sox and Yankees introduced the ballpark to the spotlight, it's 100% the right call.
