New York Yankees slugger Josh Donaldson was suspended one game after some controversial comments he made in the direction of Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. After reportedly calling Anderson “Jackie” in reference to Jackie Robinson, Donaldson's comments sparked significant blowback from the White Sox as well as fans across the league. Donaldson's own teammates even admitted his comments were out of line, including Aaron Judge. In response to Judge's comments, the veteran third baseman addmited he was a bit disappointed that the organization didn't have his back over the situation.

Via AP News, Donaldson said during Yankees' batting practice:

“I think that was tough to hear, for sure, just for the simple fact that I pride myself on being a good teammate, and everywhere I’ve went, every organization that I’ve been a part of, minus Oakland, has offered me extensions, has wanted me to stay back.”

When asked about Donaldson's comments previously, Judge admitted he didn't “think it’s the right thing to do there.” Aaron Boone had a similar sentiment. The fact that the two didn't come to the support of Donaldson has apparently disgruntled the 36-year-old, who feels that he should have had more support from his club in the middle of a controversial saga.

Despite Donaldson being a good teammate, the fact that he expected his teammates to come out in support of him in light of such a controversial issue is a bit bold from the veteran. What he said was undeniably questionable, so the Yankees' refraining from defending him was likely the right call from the franchise, whether or not Donaldson felt slighted by the lack of support.

This season, his first with the Yankees, Donaldson is slashing .238/.349/.415 with 5 home runs, 15 RBI, and 17 runs scored. He was acquired this offseason in a deal with the Minnesota Twins that saw Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela head to Minnesota.
