It was just last month that Matt Carpenter was released by the Texas Rangers organization after having featured for their Triple-A Round Rock Express team. Now, Carpenter is not only back in the majors, but he is proving to be quite a vital player for the New York Yankees in June.

Carpenter starred in the Yankees’ 18-4 home win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. The veteran infielder was a late addition to manager Aaron Boone’s lineup, as he was slotted in to start at third base for the first time this season.

Carpenter slugged a pair of home runs and finished the contest tying his career-high in RBI with seven, as he once again had his way against the Cubs.

Overall, Carpenter recorded six home runs over his opening 10 games with the Yankees. He became the first hitter in team history to reach this feat, which sure is quite an impressive accomplishment.

The Yankees have featured a multitude of record-breaking home run hitters over the years, including Mickey Mantle and Alex Rodriguez. However, they combined to hit a mere one home run over their opening 10 contests with the AL East powerhouse.

Carpenter now boasts a .333 batting average to go along with a .467 OBP so far in the campaign. While he may not go on to be a regular starter as the season progresses, he could prove to be a key player for Boone off the bench due to his ability to feature at multiple positions in the infield.
