Even if they’ve only been teammates for a year, the bond between Los Angeles Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis is apparent. After winning their first title together after beating the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals, that bond is likely to get stronger.

As the Lakers celebrated their first championship in a decade following their Game 6 victory over the Heat, James, who was named Finals MVP, was with Davis in the locker room. According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, even while basking in the glow of victory, The King was already looking forward to the next season, as he reportedly told Davis, “We’ve got more work to do.”

Earlier in the Finals, James explained that part of the reason for his closeness with the 27-year-old big man is because they are not jealous of each other, which was apparent throughout the season. In the final minutes of Game 6, with the Lakers up big and their two All-Stars sitting on the bench, James reportedly told Davis that he always believed in him and knew he was capable of playing on the big stage.

The 35-year-old James, who won his fourth championship and became the only player in NBA history to win Finals MVP with three different teams, has also been helping Davis preserve his body for the playoffs, as he struggled with injuries during his time with the New Orleans Pelicans. James reportedly revealed his nutrition plan and recommended preventative maintenance treatment to Davis so that he could stay healthy.

Davis, who joined the Lakers last season, can be a free agent this offseason, and he earlier said that he’s not 100% sure yet on how he’ll approach free agency. However, before the Finals, Davis also said that he wanted to follow James to more Finals. If their conversation during the Lakers’ celebration is to be believed, then the James-Davis pairing will have more seasons together.
