The Indian Premier League (IPL) final between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) became a trending topic on Twitter. Hours before the title clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad cricket fans started a meme fest on the micro-blogging platform.

With India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to be in attendance for the IPL final in Motera, cricket supporters were in the mood to have fun at the duo's expense.

“Modi ji & Amit ji sitting with the captain of Gujarat Titans!!!,” a user wrote on Twitter while taking a sarcastic dig at the two politicians.

Meanwhile, there were others, who simply mocked players of both the Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals.

Coming back to the game, Hardik Pandya could script history by winning the IPL final against Rajasthan Royals as no Indian captain has ever won the cash-rich league in his debut season.

Moreover, Pandya could become just the fourth Indian skipper after MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir to lift the coveted title.

He could also join Dhoni as the only other captain to clinch the trophy at home. The Ranchi-born cricket legend achieved the feat back in 2011 when he captured the title for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home.

On the other hand, RR would look to win their second IPL title after bagging the crown way back in 2008 in the competition's first season under the late Shane Warne.

Warne died due to a heart attack earlier this year, and both the Rajasthan admirers and players would want to win the IPL trophy for the iconic Australian cricketer, widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time.

The head-to-head between the two sides, however, favour Gujarat as they defeated Rajasthan in both their matches during this year's edition of the IPL.

What could worry Rajasthan Royals though is the fact that Gujarat Titans won both encounters with relative ease.

In the group stage, it was Hardik Pandya's whirlwind innings of 87 not out off 52 balls that took the steam out of the Rajasthan Royals attack as GT went on to register a 37-run triumph at the DY Patil Stadium in April.

Meanwhile, in the first qualifier, it was David Miller who came to the party as he smacked three consecutive sixes in the final over to seal a memorable victory for the Ahmedabad-based franchise and seal his team's place in the IPL final.

As soon as Miller arrived on the crease, he went on a rampage and eventually ended up making an unbeaten 68 off just 38 deliveries, powering Gujarat to a seven-wicket triumph without much trouble at all.

Despite Gujarat's success over Rajasthan this season, choosing a winner from the two sides isn't easy as both the teams are batting powerhouses.

The way Jos Buttler batted against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the eliminator on Friday, making a stunning 106* off only 60 balls, would give RR some hope.

The pressure though would be on Gujarat as they are taking on Rajasthan at home.

Besides, Gujarat Titans have done tremendously well as a unit, with Hardik Pandya leading from the front.

He has been successful in motivating his players like MS Dhoni, and the results have been for everyone to see.

Instead of individual genius, the Gujarat Titans have excelled as a team.

Nobody, not even Gujarat's owners would have thought they would be in the final in their debut season.

But Hardik Pandya has surprised everyone with his leadership skills and many former cricketers, including Australia great Matthew Hayden, and ex-India batsman Mohammad Kaif have called him the “best captain” of this IPL.

“Good cricketers, good leaders in particular keep their best for the best of times and that’s Hardik Pandya (for you) right now. He’s performing well in all departments. I love his energy and the enthusiasm that he brings to the table,” Hayden told Star Sports earlier this month.

Kaif was equally impressed by Hardik Pandya's composure on the field.

“On every ball, the guy (Pandya) stays at mid-off and chats to the bowlers, so much synchronization, so much conversation, you could talk about openness or role. In this IPL, there was no great leader than Hardik Pandya, who led his team to victory,” the former India middle-order batter said in a conversation with IPL's official broadcaster.

There's no doubt that Hardik Pandya has been the standout player and he would want to end the tournament with yet another win over Rajasthan which would make him the first “true” home captain to win the title.

Hardik's mentor, Dhoni did win the IPL trophy for CSK in Chennai in 2011, but unlike the Gujarat skipper, the ex-India skipper was born in Ranchi and not in the capital of Tamil Nadu.

Hardik, however, was born in Surat and that's why his team's triumph would be quite different from CSK's 2011 victory under Dhoni.
