The other things that complicate the situation are the Stars' cap space. So far, they have just over $9 million available. Robertson is one of three UFAs and four RFAs that they either need to sign or replace. There have also been rumors of a trade with the Ottawa Senators that materialized after they shipped off Brady Tkachuk.

The Stars fell to the Minnesota Wild in the First Round, which signaled a disappointing end to a good season. As a result, there is greater pressure on the team to overcome its playoff struggles. To do that, they need Robertson back, or someone who can match his skill set.

Robertson has been linked to many teams over the last season. While there is heavy interest, the Stars still own the rights to him, unless another team can offer sheet him.
