On Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams saw their season end. On Monday, Sean McVay and the rest of the franchise's decision-makers turned their attention to 2024. And while the Rams can expect starting quarterback Matthew Stafford back, Stetson Bennett's future with the team is much less certain.

McVay had little light to shine on the subject when asked about Bennett's status as a member of the Rams. “You know, I don’t know that,” McVay admitted in his last press conference of the season, courtesy of Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Rams' Stetson Bennett

“I think that’s a conversation for another time. I think he’s doing better, but I wouldn’t be in a position to answer that accurately right now. That’s probably a long way away from me being able to answer that.”

Mum's the word for Rams, Bennett

Following a successful collegiate career at Georgia that included back-to-back CFP title wins in 2021 and 2022, Bennett was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Rams.

But shortly after the season began, Bennett was placed on the non-football injury/illness list by Los Angeles. He spent his entire rookie season on the list, and the Rams never explained why Bennett was placed on the list.

As a fourth-round selection, Bennett signed a four-year, $4.5 million contract that will keep him under contract with the Rams through 2026.

Brett Rypien and Carson Wentz both spent time as Stafford's backup in 2023. If Bennett remains away from the Rams, they will need to invest in another quarterback behind Stafford, who has battled myriad injuries over the last few seasons.
