The Indian Premier League is known for its pulsating encounters and on Wednesday, the 2022 edition of the tournament produced one of the most thrilling matches ever.

After Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batters Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul put up a batting masterclass, posting a mammoth 210/0 in their innings with the South African smacking an unbeaten 140 and the Indian opener making 68 not out, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) found themselves in a hole early on in the chase.

With Venkatesh Iyer and Abhijeet Tomar both falling to Mohsin Khan inside the first three overs, KKR looked to be falling apart rather quickly. However, captain Shreyas Iyer (50), Nitish Rana (42) and Sam Billings (36) brought the Kolkata-based franchise back into contention with their respective knocks.

But it was Rinku Singh who turned the match on its head with his sensational knock of 40 off 15 balls, playing a blinder in the final five overs of the contest. Meanwhile, Rinku couldn't take his team across the line as he fell on the penultimate ball of KKR's innings before LSG sealed a 2-run triumph to qualify for the playoffs.

Despite KKR's defeat, Rinku was hailed on Twitter, with several social media users heaping praise on him for his monumental effort.

“Doesn't matter what the result is, Rinku Singh is the King,” a user posted on the micro-blogging platform.

“Heart goes out to Rinku Singh who played splendidly and got out to hell of a good catch. What a brave innings little boy. More coming in your way,” Indian cricketer Amit Mishra tweeted.

Meanwhile, noted cricket expert Ayaz Memon called him a “star.”

“Never mind the result, Rinku Singh is a star!” Memon said on Twitter.

On the other hand, cricket follower Johns who runs the popular CricCrazyJohns account on Twitter claimed that Rinku Singh's knock would be “remembered forever” in IPL, while another admirer labelled him as the “best human ever to play” in the cash-rich league.
