Unfortunately, Williams missed both free throws which would’ve banished him from the team. But good for him, Jayson Tatum was able to snag the offensive rebound, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cavs-news-game-7-espn-highest-rated-recorded-nba-ratings/">saving</a> the Celtics’ series and probably Williams’ career, too.</p><p>Williams shared what was going through his mind during the critical free throws. If he knocked down both free throws, he would’ve been tagged as the Celtics’ hero and a beloved fan favorite. But things didn’t pan out that way.</p><blockquote>“I was actually super confident going to the line — it’s just two free throws,” Williams said, per <a href="https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2020/09/boston-celtics-grant-williams-thought-fts-vs-toronto-felt-good-thanks-jayson-tatum-for-saving-my-career-in-boston.html">Tom Westerholm of Mass Live</a>. “Then when I hit back rim, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s just a back rim. It was a good shot, looked good, felt good.’ And then I shot the next one to the same spot and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness.’ I don’t ever remember a time I missed clutch free throws like that.”</blockquote><p>Instead of going down through a hole of depression, Williams can now look back on that moment comfortably. If it wasn’t for Tatum, Williams believes that it would’ve been his last game donning a Celtics jersey.</p><blockquote>“It was definitely a laughing moment for me when JT got the rebound,” Williams said. “I was like thank you JT for saving my career here in Boston.”</blockquote><p>Williams definitely owes something to Tatum. Hopefully, he can make up for it in the Celtics’ Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat. However, they had to endure some blunders on the way to the W, such as Montrezl Harrell’s powerful slam on Grant Williams d<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/players/montrezl-harrell/aa410959/">uring the last two minutes</a> of the second OT.</p><p>This particular highlight happened during the last two minutes of the game. Harrell got the ball on the left, and then he went to work on Williams of the Celtics. Harrell caught Williams flat-footed and blasted past him for the easy slam. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-jWsZlCiro">ClutchPoints’ video</a> of the incident shows just how incredible the moment was.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t-jWsZlCiro?feature=oembed" class="no-margin" width="1000" height="563"></iframe></figure><p>Naturally, the media asked head coach Brad Stevens about his thoughts on the incident. While he’s more than happy that the Celtics won, he did concede that Harrell’s slam was particularly nasty. Starting off the bench, he finished the classic match with 24 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks. He made up for the poor performance Paul George was showing on the night.</p><p>Fortunately for the Celtics, the team managed to pull away at the end of the game. Thanks to Kemba Walker’s near-triple-double performance, Jayson Tatum’s 39 points, and Marcus Smart’s 31, the Celtics managed to walk away with the win.</p><p>Many Celtics fans would agree that they’d let Harrell posterize their man all they want as long as they end up with the most important highlight, which is the win. That is exactly what Boston claimed in the final contest before the NBA All-Star Break.
