Stuart Broad scripted two contrasting records on Day 2 of the ongoing fifth Test between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Friday. With Mohammed Shami's dismissal, the veteran England cricketer became just the third fast bowler after Glenn McGrath and James Anderson to take 550 wickets in Test cricket. However, Stuart Broad's happiness didn't last long as minutes later, he went on to deliver the most expensive over in the history of the longest format of the game. India stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah took him to the cleaners as Stuart Broad conceded 35 runs in the over. The record was earlier held by South African spinner Robin Peterson who gave away 28 runs in a Test match against West Indies in 2003 with the great man Brian Lara smashing the left-arm tweakers to all corners of the ground. The Indian dressing room, particularly former skipper Virat Kohli was extremely happy with Jasprit Bumrah's all-out assault against Stuart Broad.

Virat Kohli's animated reaction to Jasprit Bumrah's blitzkrieg eventually went viral on social media.

Stuart Broad now has the dubious distinction of bowling the most expensive over in both Tests and T20Is. In 2007, India's Yuvraj Singh smashed him for six consecutive sixes as he gave away a total of 36 runs in a T20I over.

Coming back to Jasprit Bumrah’s heroics, the India captain started with a four as the ball crossed the fine leg boundary. The English speedster then came up with a wide and high bouncer which wicketkeeper Sam Billings failed to collect, costing Stuart Broad four extra runs.

Stuart Broad conceded a maximum of the following delivery which turned out to be no-ball.

Broad then bowled a high and wide bouncer that eluded wicketkeeper Sam Billings for four extra runs.

On the next three balls, Jasprit Bumrah smashed Stuart Broad for back-to-back boundaries before clobbering the fifth ball for another six. He finished the over with a risky single on the final ball.

Before Jasprit Bumrah’s heroics with the bat, Ravindra Jadeja completed his third Test hundred and his first on English soil.

In the end, the Indians were bowled out for 416 with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah adding the bulk of runs scored by the Asian side on the second day of the Test match.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah wasn't done for the day as after his world record-breaking performance with the bat, he led from the front with the ball too.

Jasprit Bumrah sent both England openers Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, and No.3 Ollie Pope back to the pavilion early, putting the home team on the backfoot with their score reading 44/3 at one point.

Nonetheless, the Ben Stokes-led side finished the day at 84/5 with the dangerman Joe Root back in the hut.

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow stitched together a small partnership of 34 runs to steady the ship for a brief period but Mohammed Siraj succeeded in dismissing England's best batter by a peach of a delivery.

Mohammed Shami then got rid of nightwatchman Jack Leach for a duck to put India in the driver's seat in the Test on Day 2.

Coming back to Jasprit Bumrah's crazy effort with the bat, it wasn't the first time when the hosts lost the plot against India in this Test match.

On Day 1, the visitors were on the ropes, having lost five wickets with just 98 on the board. But England allowed them to make a gigantic comeback as Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja came together to forge a 222-run stand.

What's more, Rishabh Pant terrorized the England bowlers with his stunning counter-attack as he produced an innings of the highest order, finishing with a spectacular 146 off 111 deliveries.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah’s scintillating knock left several former cricketers, and cricket pundits, including Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Irfan Pathan in awe.

“Broad the bowler v India is a special story in itself. 36 runs conceded in an over to Yuvraj Singh in 2007 T20 WC, and today 35 runs in an over in a Test match,” noted cricket expert Ayaz Memon tweeted.

“Kya yeh Yuvi hai ya Bumrah?! 2007 ki yaad dila di (Is this Yuvraj or Bumrah? Reminded me of 2007),” the legendary Sachin Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.

“BOOM What play, captain saab! Jasprit Bumrah Kamaal karta. 35 runs off Broad’s over in a Test match!” shared Harbhajan Singh.

“Bumrah and Shami's partnership in the Lord's Test in the same series helped India win the match. Today Stuart Broad wasn't great and Jasprit Bumrah cashed in. Test cricket at the moment seems very easy,” Ajit Agarkar said on Sony Liv.

Bowl well, get heaps of wickets, get runs, become captain, and put India in a terrific position. But I think it's his bowling. He just bowled at the right speed. His line and length were immaculate as always,” Ajit Agarkar added.

Jasprit Bumrah and his boys are 2-1 up in the series. If they manage to win or draw this Test match, they would register their first series triumph in England in 15 years. India last beat England in England back in 2007 when their current head coach Rahul Dravid was the captain.
