Virat Kohli is one of the most famous cricketers in India and the world. His wife, Anushka Sharma, is also well-known as she is one of the best actresses in the country.
Now, let’s learn more about Virat Kohli’s wife before we get into their loving relationship.
Anushka Sharma was born on May 1, 1988, in Ayodha, Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma is an Indian army officer, while her mother, Ashima Sharma, is a homemaker. She has an older brother named Karnesh Sharma who is also in the entertainment industry as a film producer.
Her ancestral home was located in the town of Dehradun in Uttarakhand on Naishvilla road, this is where her father lived before joining the army. Anushka said that being an army brat played a big role in her growing up and how it shaped her as a person.
“I take pride in saying that I am an army officer’s daughter even more than being an actor,” Sharma said in a 2012 interview with The Times of India.
Anushka Sharma was in the city of Bangalore and she attended St. Mary’s School in Margherita, Assam for her primary schooling. She then finished her schooling at the Army School in Bangalore. Sharma attended and graduated from Mount Carmel College in Bangalore.
Initially, Anushka Sharma did not have any aspirations to be an actress as she wanted to pursue a career in modeling or journalism. After her graduation, she moved to Mumbai where she enrolled herself at the Elite Model Management.
In 2007, she made her runway debut at the Lakme Fashion Week for designer Wendell Rodrick’s Les Vamps Show. Sharma was picked to be his finale model for the Spring Summer 2007 Collection. She also had campaigns for brands such as Silk & Shine, Whisper, Nathelia Jewelry, and Fiat Palio, to mention a few.
While she was modeling, Anushka Sharma also joined acting schools and began auditioning for various film roles.
Anushka Sharma made her acting debut in the film of veteran Indian filmmaker Aditya Chopra titled Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi where she played the role of a young bride named Tani Sahni. She then signed a three-film deal with Chopra’s film studio, Yash Raj Films.
The film was a commercial success and Anushka Sharma earned nominations for Filmfare Award’s Best Actress and Best Female Debut.
In 2010, she starred in the last movie of her three-film deal with Yash Raj Films, and it was a romantic comedy titled Band Baaja Baaraat. The movie earned positive reviews and was a sleeper hit. As for Anushka Sharma, she earned her second nomination for Best Actress due to her performance.
Two years later, she starred in a supporting role in the romantic movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan where she played Akira Rai, a Discovery Channel reporter who has an ambition of becoming a documentary filmmaker. Her performance earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2014, she portrayed a television journalist who befriends an alien in the religious satire PK. The movie was a critical and commercial success as it became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films with worldwide revenue of over $93 million.
She then started a production company alongside her brother called Clean Slate Filmz in 2013, and their first project released was a thriller movie titled NH10 which was released in 2015.
As of this writing, Anushka Sharma is still active in her work as an actress and film producer.
Aside from her work as a Bollywood star, Anushka Sharma is also practicing vegetarianism since 2015. In fact, she was named by The Times of India as one of Bollywood’s hottest vegetarian celebrities.
Sharma also supports multiple charities and causes such as the Shabana Azmi’s Mijwan Welfare Society, which is a non-governmental organization that helps empower women. In 2013, she pledged to support the education of India’s young women as part of the “Our Girls, Our Pride” fundraiser.
Anushka Sharma was also vocal about the pay disparity between the actresses and their male counterparts in the film industry. She has also spoken up for animal rights wherein she condemned multiple practices such as horse-drawn carriages in Mumbai and the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China.
In regards to the love story of Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, the couple met in 2013 during a commercial shoot for Clear shampoo.
“The first time I met her I cracked a joke immediately. I was very nervous and that’s why I cracked a joke because I didn’t know what to do,” Kohli said. “I am not 6 feet plus or something… she walked in with heels and was looking taller than me and I was like didn’t you get a higher pair of heels. Then she was like ‘excuse me’ and then I was like ‘no, I am just joking’. My joke became such a weird moment for myself.”
Since then, the couple hit it off and Anushka was even seen in some of Kohli’s games.
On December 11, 2017, the Bollywood star and the Indian cricket star flew to Milan, Italy where they tied the knot in a private ceremony.
