India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad received severe criticism from fans on Twitter after a video of the cricketer refusing to pose for a selfie with a ground staff went viral on social media. The incident happened during the fifth and the final T20I against South Africa at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru after rain delayed the start of the match. As inclement weather stopped the proceedings, a ground staff was seen entering the Indian dug-out where Ruturaj Gaikwad was waiting for the skies to clear up. The ground staff then sat near the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter and attempted to click a selfie with him. But Ruturaj Gaikwad wasn't impressed with the staff member's attitude and refused to pose for a selfie with him.

The entire incident was caught on camera, and the video subsequently went viral on Twitter with several cricket admirers slamming the Indian cricketer for his behaviour towards the ground staff.

“Very bad and disrespectful gesture by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Sad to see these groundsmen getting treated like this,” an Indian cricket supporter wrote on Twitter.

“With the opportunities thrown by Gaikwad. There will be a time when none would want to take a selfie with him,” another wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

“This is bad. This shows his class. I'm sure any other player would not behaved this way. Also why did he even want a pick with Ruturaj,” a third commented.

“That's usual when you give them much attention than they deserve. We make them celebrity and then they start behaving as celebrity like this,” a fourth claimed.

Meanwhile, the fifth match of the series between India and South Africa was called off due to incessant rain, forcing both teams to share the trophy. While the Proteas won the first two games, the hosts came out victorious in the next two.

India speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named the Player of the series for his excellent showing during the series and the Uttar Pradesh bowler described it as a “proud moment”.

“When you get Man of the Series, it's always a proud moment, and as a bowler in T20, it's even better. I'm always focused on getting back stronger, whether it's my bowling or my fitness. I'm playing for years now, my role has always been the same. Bowl two in the powerplay, bowl two at the end. These things are always the same, but as a senior I always think about helping the youngsters. I've been lucky that the captain has given me the full hand and said do what you want. In that regard I've been blessed,” Bhuvneshwar said in the post-match presentation.

Coming back to Ruturaj, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar have been highly impressed with him and expect to see him representing the national team in all three formats.

“Ruturaj Gaikwad is another player who has very little areas to improve. There is nothing really required as far as Gaikwad's improvement is concerned. He has got all the shots in the book, but the most impressive aspect is his shot selection. Whatever shot he plays, he doesn't get cowed down,” observed Sunil Gavaskar.

“I hope Ruturaj carries this form because I think there is class there. He has the promise to be an all-format player, which is always nice to be rather than just be one-dimensional,” Manjrekar said in a video posted on his Twitter handle.
