Opening the batting with Virat Kohli,  Rohit Sharma scored 23 off 11 deliveries before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan in the 4th over of India's innings.

Despite Rohit Sharma's improved performance, netizens were left unimpressed by his display, mocking the explosive batter on the microblogging site.

Similarly, Rohit Sharma was brutally trolled on social media after his dismal showing in the T20 World Cup fixture against Afghanistan on Thursday.

Fans poked fun at the India skipper after the latter failed miserably in Barbados this week.

Rohit Sharma opened the batting with the out-of-form Virat Kohli in the Caribbean and looked tentative throughout his brief innings on Thursday.

In the end, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a pathetic 8 off 13 balls after he was unable to keep a Fazalhaq Farooqi delivery down and was caught by Rashid Khan.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli's sensational six against his old nemesis Naveen-ul-Haq of Afghanistan went viral after the Team India batter registered his first double-digit score in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

After scoring only five runs in the first three matches of the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli opened his innings against Afghanistan with caution, taking a bit of time to settle down on the pitch.

Once he looked set, the former India batter began opening his shoulders and even recreated his iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) six from the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia as he smashed Afghanistan bowler Naveen-ul-Haq for a maximum at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

However, Virat Kohli's stay at the crease was short-lived as his troubles against wrist-spinners came to haunt him once Afghanistan's spin superstar Rashid Khan was introduced into the attack.

With Virat Kohli looking to be aggressive, Rashid Khan tossed up the ball to lure the Indian batter into a drive. The 35-year-old fell into Rashid Khan's trap as he lofted the ball towards long-off, where Mohammad Nabi took a clean catch to send him back to the pavilion.

Following his dismal performance against Afghanistan, Virat Kohli faced “Chokli” taunts on X.

Fans mocked Virat Kohli on the internet after the premier Team India batter suffered another failure, his fourth in succession in the T20 World Cup. The 35-year-old batter, who's earned global acclaim for his superhuman-like consistency, managed to score only 24 off 24 deliveries against Afghanistan in the crucial Super Eight fixture in Barbados.

Earlier this month, USA's Saurabh Netravalkar removed the Team India superstar for a golden duck at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

With Virat Kohli registering his maiden golden duck in the T20 World Cup, his terrible run in the tournament extended to three matches in a row.

He began his T20 World Cup campaign with a score of 1 off 5 deliveries against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in the Big Apple last week.

On a lively pitch that was aiding fast bowlers, Virat Kohli slashed hard at the ball delivered by Mark Adair. However, he could only get a thick edge, and Benjamin White, who was standing at third man, did the rest.

The 35-year-old batter followed his 1 against Ireland by scoring four runs against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Interestingly, it was his lowest score against the Green Army in the T20 World Cup.

In the third match for India in the tournament, Saurabh Netravalkar, who once represented India in the U-19 World Cup, ended Virat Kohli's plans of rejuvenation as soon as he arrived at the crease to open the batting with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Enticing Virat Kohli with a little bit of a wide delivery outside the off stump, Saurabh Netravalkar sent him back to the pavilion after he edged the ball to be caught behind by the wicketkeeper.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's poor performances hasn't shaken India's bowling coach Paras Mhambrey's faith in their ability. He reckons that the two will make all the difference in India's crunch game against the Pat Cummins-led Australia on Monday.

“I think Virat has been – in the last, we’ve seen from the IPL itself and Rohit from the World Cup. I think both of them are in great form. I think every game there is a certain plan that you go in with. Sometimes some individual has to take a chance, the other has to play a defending role. So, I think that's going to happen out here, that's what is happening. Rohit is playing his natural game,” Paras Mhambrey said on the eve of India's contest against Australia.

“But it's good to see that in this game especially, the intent that Virat has shown, I think that's good to see that, good to see that intent. And I think performance – you'll have games like this, you'll get a 40-odd, 50-odd run, but I think the way he went about with the intent, that was good to see. That was good heartening. And I think that's the intent that we want as a batting unit as well. Something that we've been emphasizing on throughout the previous World Cup, this World Cup as well,” he concluded.
