The Skate Playtest begins this Fall, allowing fans of the series to come back and enjoy the series return. It’s been over 14 years since the last Skate game released (for PS3 and Xbox 360), but now the series makes its long-awaited return. However, the upcoming entry in the series will be a free-to-play, live service title. Although that’s definitely cause for concern, the Playtest might give us more insight on how it actually feels. Therefore, we’ll show you how to pre-register for the Skate Playtest.

How To Register For The Skate Playtest

  • Visit the Skate Insider Playtest Registration page on EA’s website
  • Select “Register Now”
  • Sign into, or create an Electronic Arts Playtesting Portal account
  • Select your system of preference:
    • PC
    • Xbox
    • PlayStation
    • Mobile
  • Select “Sign-Up” at the bottom right corner

Just remember that signing up for the Playtest might not guarantee you a spot.

The next skate title, simply dubbed “skate” is the first entry in the series since Skate 3 in 2010. The series originally began in 2007, when the first Skate released for PS3 and Xbox 360. Overall, we saw four different skate titles release between 2007-2010, including the Skate It game on Wii, iOS, and Nintendo DS. This new title won’t be dubbed Skate 4, like most players assumed. Furthermore, they probably didn’t expect it to be free-to-play either.

This is obviously a big cause for concern for Skate fans. Although the developers assured that there’ll be no loot-boxes or pay-to-win mechanics, we still can’t help but feel uneasy about it. However, the developers apparently also confirmed that none of the game’s maps will be locked behind pay walls.

But there’s still other ways that microtransactions can make the game an unpleasant experience. Nevertheless, the game is still free, which means it’s at least worth checking out when it launches. So don’t worry if you miss out on the Playtest. You’ll have an opportunity soon enough to play the game for free.

In terms of gameplay, the developers recently released a blog post detailing some of their priorities. From rebuilding the Flick-It system, to creating a narrative, Skate seems to offer more than just shredding throughout the city. We look forward to hearing more info as we approach its release date.

Overall, that includes everything you need to know on how to register for the Skate Playtest, which arrives this Fall. Between TopSpin, EA College Football, and Skate, 2024 sure seems to be the year of comebacks. We look forward to the return of the Skate series, and hope it’s a good one. But we’ll have to wait a bit longer for more details on its Playtest.
