While Pakistan may usually dominate the fields of cricket, they were playing on the USA's home soil. So, it was just right that Monank Patel, Aaron Jones, and Saurabh Netravalkar among others lit up the powerhouse nation. The fact that they also did it in Dallas made this Cricket T20 World Cup victory all the sweeter.
It was not expected for the USA to win this matchup. The situation was that they started off hot by making 18 for one while batting in the first super over. They got run out which led to seven runs. Aaron Jones took care of that run. Then, it was Canadian turned USA hotshot Nitish Kumar who played the role of tormentor next. He caught off Iftikhar Ahmed after the Pakistan player produced five for none in their super over. Saurabh Netravalkar was the next man up who got to shine in Dallas. He limited Pakistan to 13 for one in his go at it.
This impressive performance notched a 104 in the 14th over. It was Monank Patel who notched a 38-ball 50 which brought them closer. With just 44 balls, the USA needed 56 to win this T20 World Cup matchup. Aaron Jones and Nitish Kumar would then deliver a six and four respectively such that Pakistan was pushed to a super over. The USA would win that final bout and end the game with a 159-3 to 159-7 scoreline.
USA cricket faithful goes rabid
Fans absolutely went wild after this thrilling match. They had to give their flowers to the national team that stepped up in Dallas to topple the cricket powerhouse. Hyped reactions were everywhere.
“USA DEFEATS PAKISTAN AT THE T20 CRICKET WORLD CUP. ONE OF THE BIGGEST UPSETS IMAGINABLE. PAKISTAN MADE THE FINAL LAST TIME. JUST USA’S SECOND WORLD CUP MATCH EVER… AND WEVE WON THEM BOTH!!!” a user wrote.
Other avid spectators of the Cricket T20 World Cup were more focused on what was happening online, “Cricket Twitter tried to beef with us so we decided to take over the sport within a few days LMAOOOOO.”
Some were just glad that the day had finally come for the USA, “USA has just beaten Pakistan in a game of T20 Cricket at the World Cup. Genuinely never thought I'd ever see that fixture, never mind that result. One of the biggest upsets, if not the biggest upset, in cricket history. Wow.”
A big dream after this historic Cricket T20 World Cup win
While this is a big victory, cricket in the USA still has a long way to go. So, Patel's hope is to inspire other young men and women in the country to try out the sport, via The Guardian.
“Of course, beating Pakistan in a World Cup is going to open many doors for us. Obviously hosting the World Cup in the USA and performing here as a team, it helps us to grow cricket in the USA,” the team captain declared.
The fact that this squad is making the country proud is already enough. Hopefully, they see those hopes of having more people play cricket come to life in their lifetimes.
