The Los Angeles Lakers have undergone much change to their roster this offseason through free agency that is headlined by landing All-Star forward LeBron James.

Among those additional acquisitions is veteran center JaVale McGee on a one-year deal worth roughly $2.4 million. According to Tania Ganguli of The LA Times, McGee wasted no time in elevating the level of expectations next season for the Lakers toward competing against the back-to-back defending champion Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors have put together an even more stacked roster this offseason with the addition of All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins on a one-year, $5.3 million deal that could give them the most offensively potent starting lineup in the league. It has made them the unquestioned favorite to win a third straight NBA title, which has led to the teams behind them such as the Lakers to add more pieces to the puzzle to compete with them.

Los Angeles may have the potential to enter the picture as a serious challenger to possibly dethrone the Warriors. However, this will first require plenty of adjusting with their newly-formed roster on the court to get acquainted with each other on the court. It certainly helps that the Lakers have brought aboard arguably the best player in the league to lead the charge for their roster blended with young and proven talent.

If they hope to be able to compete with the likes of the Warriors or even the Houston Rockets, it will require their young core group of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart to take the next steps in their development toward becoming high-impact players. This group of talent has a chance to become key pieces of the puzzle that could lift the franchise to great heights not only this upcoming season but well beyond that.
