There is now a major injury concern regarding Tampa Bay Lightning center Brayden Point in the Game 7 clash against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Over the late stages of the first period, Point was forced to leave the ice due to an apparent right leg injury. The sixth-year center took on an unbalanced fall along the boards after being slightly clipped from behind by Maple Leafs defenceman Mark Giordano.

Point subsequently limped off the ice and headed straight towards the locker room.

At the start of the second period, Point returned to the bench and later made his way back to the ice, although he was unable to play through the injury.

Overall, the Lightning struck first in the winner-take-all clash with Toronto, as left winger Nicholas Paul opened up the scoring in the first period for the 1-0 advantage.

Despite being sidelined for some time during the regular season due to an upper-body injury, Point was able to tally 50-plus points for the fourth time in his run with the reigning Stanley Cup champions. He notched 28 goals and 30 assists over 66 games played in the campaign.

The versatile center has since gone on to emerge as a vital player in Tampa Bay’s Eastern Conference first-round series against Toronto. He is just coming off of the keen showing in Game 6 where he both recorded the game-tying assist in the third period and then went on to score the game-winner in the first overtime period.

Tampa Bay is aiming to keep its aspirations alive of a third consecutive trip to the Stanley Cup Finals.
