The Detroit Lions have been around since 1930, but even with all those years, they don't really have a true rival that everyone recognizes. There is no doubt the Lions have a bunch of rivals, but who is number one is up for a big debate. Let's take a look at the Lions' five biggest rivals.

5. Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns and Lions history dates back all the way to the 1950s in the playoffs. For three straight playoffs starting in 1952, the Brows and Lions faced off with each other in the playoffs. The Lions won two of those three matchups, which is quite impressive because the Lions don't have a whole lot of playoff success.

4. Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions are both the traditional Thanksgiving games, but they don't ever play on that date. Even though they don't play each other on that day, that does connect them, and they have had some intense battles throughout the years. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 17-12, but as of late, it's been one-sided with the Cowboys winning four games in a row.

3. Minnesota Vikings

Neither of these teams actually probably look at this as a big-time rivalry, but with the two teams playing each other twice a year, makes it a bit more intense. The biggest problem with the Lions for this rivalry is they have been dominated in it. The Vikings lead the all-time series 76-39-2. The Vikings also have the longest winning streak, coming out on top 13 times in a row from 1968-74. The only real good thing the Lions have going for them in this series is they do have the biggest margin of victory. Back in 1981, the Lions beat the Vikings 45-7.

2. Chicago Bears

In terms of who Lions fans hate the most, the Chicago Bears could be number one on the list. The Lions and Bears have been playing against each other dating all the way back to 1930. Back in the early years whenever these two teams played they were extra physical, and not much has changed today.

The Bears still play a physical style of football, something the Lions like to replicate when they face off against the team from the Windy City. Much like the Vikings rivalry, this is a series that has been dominated by the Bears. As far as all-time meetings, the Bears lead the series 101-74-5. Dating back to the 1966 season, it's a little closer with the Bears leading 54-52-1. The Bears own the longest streak winning 11 games in a row. The biggest win in this series was back in 1941 when the Bears came away with a 49-0 victory.

1. Green Bay Packers

The biggest rival all-time for the Lions wears green and gold. The Green Bay Packers and Lions have been facing off since 1930 and much like the other two rivalries in the NFC North, this one has been very one-sided.

One of the more memorable games played between these two teams recently happened in 2015. Late in the game, a questionable facemask call allowed Aaron Rodgers to have one more shot at the end zone. On the final play of the game, Rodgers completed a 61-yard hail mary to Richard Rodgers for a touchdown. The play is no referred to as the “Miracle in Motown.”

The Packers and Lions have faced off 181 times with Green Bay leading the all-time series 102-72-7. The largest victory was all the way back in 1940 with the Packers coming out ahead 50-7. These two teams have faced off twice in the playoffs, with the Packers coming away with a victory.

The only real bragging rights the Lions have in this rivalry is with the longest winning streak. From 1949-54, the Lions were able to win 11 games in a row.
