Darrion Caldwell is set to take on Enrique Barzola at Bellator 273. The bantamweight MMA fighter is on the comeback trail and looking to get back in the championship title picture.

Darrion Caldwell has been training in Florida for the past year and he's looking to get back on track. The focus is to get better and improve as an MMA fighter.

“I've been extremely focused this fight camp,” Caldwell told ClutchPoints. “Obviously, coming off of two losses, it's a sense to write your wrongs. I've been really trying to make adjustments under the tutelage of Henri Hooft and Greg Jones, trying to put more eggs in my basket. So down here in Flordia we're just going crazy on the training. We just put in that work.”

The former Bellator MMA champion is set to take on a UFC veteran in Enrique Barzola. The fight is exactly what Darrion Caldwell needs to get back on track with his career.

“I just want to fight. Like an opponent, a name doesn't really matter. I was gonna sign regardless of who it was. But it just happened to be him, an ex-UFC guy. When I was a champion, I used to love talking about fighting UFC guys. As long as I'm on the outside looking into the tournament that they got going on, why not take out these UFC guys? So I'm like bring them all in, you know, bring them in! I'll knock them off and then just try to set myself up for 2023. That's really the focus put in putting this work on the 29th you know, stringing together a few more fights. And then 2023 is mine.”

Darrion Caldwell is very excited to take on a former UFC fighter. It's something he wanted even when he was Bellator MMA champion.

Enrique Barzola made it a point to say he wasn't scared of Darrion Caldwell as he makes his Bellator MMA debut. Caldwell understands but hopes he's not overlooking him because if he is, he's in for a rude awakening.

“I know he's from Peru. I know he's made a lot of sacrifices to be over here, in the states, and training and stuff. So that's got to be hard in itself. I don't think going into a fight with another person is gonna be scary for him if you don't know what you're up against. I feel as if he's overlooking me, just because he's coming from the UFC? Coming to Bellator he's got a rude awakening. Welcome to the dark side. It's real over here. It's as real as it gets.”

Darrion Caldwell expects the MMA fight to be very exciting with an opponent that's going to come at him aggressively. That's why it's the former champion's job to ‘break him.'

“I'm gonna expect this guy to just be relentless. That's just his strength, coming out all crazy with pretty good technique. I know he's got some decent stand-up and some decent wrestling. I wouldn't say he's good or great anywhere but he's solid, he's a well-rounded fighter. I have to go out there and break him.”

Every MMA fighter sees themselves finishing the fight with a highlight-reel knockout. Darrion Caldwell sees multiple paths to victory with his improved skills thanks to his training in Florida.

“I don't see this guy making the past the first round. KO, TKO, or slick submission. Now I got those in my arsenal. I've been working a lot of ground game over here so expect that to be back in my arsenal. Last couple of fights you see me just get on top of guys and just lay on them. I'm going for the finish though. Get on top of guys and I'll sleep them.”
