Caitlin Clark is the talk of town after taking her talents to the WNBA. She's playing relatively well for a rookie but is facing some struggles early in the season. The talking heads have been loud lately. However, one ESPN personality shared her opinion on the buzz around the Indiana Fever star and it sounds like Damian Lillard agrees.

ESPN's Elle Duncan went on a rant about Caitlin Clark. Many have bashed other WNBA for not praising her after bringing so many eyeballs to women's basketball. But Duncan points out that it would be weird for all of the WNBA stars to only praise Clark. There has to be a mindset for competition and players want to beat the best.

She makes a good point. Not everyone praised Michael Jordan during his prime. Or LeBron James for that matter. We just watched Victor Wembanyama receive a ton of praise for his efforts despite the San Antonio Spurs ending the season with a losing record. But when it comes down to it, Damian Lillard agreed with Elle Duncan's take on Instagram.

At the end of the day, professional athletes have a mindset of beating their opponent no matter who it is. Although Clark is helping grow the WNBA, her opponents want to beat her. It's natural. That's a normal thought process other pro athletes should have. Additionally, Clark plays on the Fever who earned the No. 1 pick for a reason. The team as a whole is going to struggle until they develop. It's crazy to think a franchise can turn things around immediately because they acquired the top prospect in the draft.

Caitlin Clark's rookie outlook for remainder of 2024 season

Caitlin Clark will be in the running for the Rookie of the Year Award despite the struggles she's faced through five games. She's currently averaging 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. Those are solid numbers for a rookie, so the Fever are likely ecstatic over her production early on.

But she'll get better as the season progresses. So, that means her numbers could go up. If that's the case the Fever would at least be able to build some confidence and momentum for next year. But Caitlin Clark needs the time to develop at the professional level.

There is nothing abnormal going on with her rookie campaign. We've seen plenty of superstars in the past struggle to begin their careers to just turn around and become the face of the league. Remember Peyton Manning's rookie season? He still holds the record for most interceptions thrown by a rookie in a single season.

With that said, it'll be fun watching Caitlin Clark continue to develop her game. The more she plays the more better she'll become. And that's all that matters this year for her and the Fever.
