AD didn’t specify the other two players he ranked above the four-time league MVP, but when LeBron himself caught wind of Davis’ assessment, The King made it clear that he doesn’t agree with the same.</p><p>LeBron did acknowledge that the Lakers have more than a few great shooters in the squad:</p><blockquote>“We got a lot of great shooters on the team,” Lakers superstar LeBron James replied to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin (h/t <a href="https://www.talkbasket.net/119180-lebron-james-responds-whether-he-is-the-best-shooter-on-the-lakers">TalkBasket.net</a>). “KCP great shooter. Wes Matthews great shooter. Kuz can shoot the heck out of the ball. Dennis the Menace can shoot the ball as well. AD can shoot the ball. We got a lot of great knock down shooters.”</blockquote><p>However, James expressed his belief that he still remains to be the very best:</p><blockquote>“If someone said bet, I’m going to take, you guys know, obviously, I’m going to take myself,” Lakers veteran LeBron James said. “That’s just the competitive nature in me and the work ethic that I put into my shot. I feel real good with my shot both from the free-throw line and and also from the three-point line.”</blockquote><p>The Lakers megastar is no Stephen Curry, but he definitely makes his shots when it matters most.</p><p>The four-time NBA champ’s efficiency <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-nikola-jokic-wants-to-spend-basketball-eternity-with-teammate-and-its-not-jamal-murray/" rel="noopener">was on full display on</a> Friday, as he led the Lakers to an easy 112-95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Their increased defensive intensity has resulted in five straight wins, including the 112-95 victory over New Orleans on Friday.</p><p>Following a 4-0 road trip, the Lakers were back home for the nationally televised matchup with Ingram, Zion Williamson, and the struggling Pelicans.</p><p>After a sloppy first quarter, the Lakers’ <a href="https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/defensive-efficiency">top-rated defense</a> stymied the Pelicans, particularly in the second half. As per usual, the Lakers’ lockdown was led by Anthony Davis.</p><blockquote>“He’s the centerpiece of what we’re doing on that side of the ball,” Vogel <a href="https://twitter.com/SpectrumSN/status/1350274201639297027">said</a> about Anthony Davis in his pre-game session with reporters. “He sets a great tone for us … he’s definitely our leader on that side of the ball.”</blockquote><p>Early on, the Pelicans’ young front-court duo got the best of a sluggish Lakers group. Last season’s Most Improved Player of the Year winner is averaging 23.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game this season.</p><p>Williamson finished with 21 points (9-for-19 shooting) and 12 rebounds.</p><p>Davis had an off night offensively, shooting 5-for-16 with 17 points. But, with the way his team shared the rock (31 assists) and shot from deep (15-37), his defensive impact was more than enough to deliver the Lakers a fifth-straight W.</p><blockquote>“We’ve been locking in defensively,” Anthony Davis said after the game. “We had a slow start tonight, but we’ve been doing it on the defensive end. I think we’re first in defensive rating, and we want to keep that edge.”</blockquote><figure><img src="https://clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Anthony-Davis-out-with-obscure-injury-vs.-Bulls-1024x576.jpg"></figure><p>Davis cited guard Dennis Schröder’s fullcourt feistiness as a spark-plug in the second quarter.</p><blockquote>“We were slow defensively. … So, it started with D.S.’s ball pressure. We fed off his energy. It takes one play to get us going.”</blockquote><p>The Lakers second-half surge was sparked by a 15-0 run in the 3 quarter. Head coach Frank Vogel praised his team’s defensive adjustments coming out of halftime.</p><blockquote>“Your defense has to carry you and keep you in games,” Vogel told the media afterwards. “That’s what we challenge our guys to do. We made some adjustments defensively to slow the game down. … We had a great defensive second half.”</blockquote><p>LeBron James, meanwhile, took just 11 shots and mostly played floor general, finishing with 21 points (6-11 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 7-7 FT), 11 assists and eight rebounds. This season, he’s made great strides in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-anthony-davis-reacts-to-lebron-james-5-straight-threes-in-the-4th-quarter/">becoming a premier volume shooter</a> from the 3-point line.</p><p>But it seems as though his running mate Anthony Davis isn’t all that convinced quite yet. The King is taking and <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAL/2021.html">making the most number of threes</a> on the team at 2.5 makes on 6.4 attempts per contest. That gives him a superb 38.6% shooting clip, which is his best percentage since his 2012-13 year with the Miami Heat but on double the volume.</p><p>However given the defensive attention James receives, his threes clearly come under the most duress compared to his other teammates that actually receive pinpoint passes from James. If only LeBron James could pass to himself, he might be north of 40%.</p><p>But a closer look shows that Davis is most likely right to place the King outside the top 2. In fact, he may have even been a tad generous with the ranking. The Lakers are currently being paced by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who’s knocking down threes at an absurd 53.1% rate. The puts KCP not just as the best shooter on the team, but top 5 in the entire NBA. Second on the team is Alex Caruso, who’s also shooting the lights out whenever he gets the chance. Had the Carushow not missed a couple of games, his 52.8% clip would have qualified for the top 10 league-wide.</p><p>Both Anthony Davis and Wesley Matthews are also shooting at a better clip than LeBron, at 39.4% and 41.0%, respectively. All four of James’ Lakers teammates make north of one per game as well, meaning these aren’t empty shooting stats.</p><p>But at the end of the day, LeBron James probably wouldn’t have it any other way. Los Angeles has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to long-range shooting. Having his teammates shooting better than him has carried the Los Angeles Lakers to the <a href="https://www.espn.com.sg/nba/stats/team/_/table/offensive/sort/threePointPct/dir/desc">third best 3pt shooting percentage</a> in the entire NBA.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

After the Los Angeles Lakers took care of business against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Anthony Davis <a href="https://twitter.com/mcten/status/1349576000145772546?s=20">reacted to</a> Harden’s trade and the Lakers’ early success on the road.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Anthony Davis on the Nets’ moves: “They look good on paper and we’ll see how it goes when those guys get in between the lines and get a chance to play alongside each other”</p><p>— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) <a href="https://twitter.com/mcten/status/1349576000145772546?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" target="_blank">January 14, 2021</a></p></blockquote><p></p></figure><p>Anthony Davis is familiar with being traded and having to adjust to a new team that has its sights on making it to the NBA Finals. The All-Star power forward was dealt to the Lakers before the 2019-2020 season, with many wondering if he would succeed alongside LeBron James.</p><p>The duo of Anthony Davis and James would lead Los Angeles to their 17th NBA Championship last season, proving the naysayers wrong. While Davis realizes the talent that the Nets now have with James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving — if he returns this season — he also knows that sometimes a team could look better on paper than they do on the court together.</p><p>At the same time, Davis and the Lakers improved to 7-0 on the road to begin the season, which is a franchise record. After handily taking down a rebuilding Thunder squad, Davis spoke about Los Angeles’ ability to give it their all regardless of the venue.</p><blockquote>“Is it really a road game? You don’t know. There’s no fans,” Davis told reporters on a video conference call after the Thunder game, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “So, the court [design] is the only difference. But we go out and try to compete each and every night. We’re still trying to figure things out, and when we get a win out of it, it just makes it a bonus.”</blockquote><p>The Lakers seem to be cruising to begin the season and look to be the favorites to repeat as NBA champions.
