Why The Blue Jays Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Blue Jays will have Gausman on the mound, but he is not having the season some might have thought. Gausman is 2-3 with a 4.89 ERA, and 1.51 WHIP. However, Gausman has allowed three earned runs or less in five of his last six starts. In those five starts, Gausman is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA, 27 hits allowed, and 27 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. This is the kind of start Gausman will need to have for the Blue Jays to win this game.

The Tigers are not the best at the plate. Detroit is batting under .235 this season, and they do not for a lot of power at all. Along with that, the Tigers will not take a lot of walks. Gausman and the rest of the Blue Jays staff need to take advantage of this. If they can keep Detroit off the barrel, the Blue Jays should be able to win this game on the road.

Why The Tigers Will Cover The Spread/Win

Flaherty will take the mound, and he has pitched pretty well in his first season with the Tigers. Flaherty has a 3.79 ERA, but his WHIP is just 1.06. Along with that, Flaherty has 72 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched. Flaherty has gone at least six innings in all but one of his nine starts, and he has allowed three earned runs or less in seven of his starts. He is pitching well this season, and that should continue in this game at home.

The Blue Jays are a bottom-10 offense in the league. Some of their star players are not playing as expected, either. Toronto has a batting average under .230, they have the second-fewest home runs, and the second-lowest average exit velocity. The Blue Jays have not made a lot of hard contact this season, and the Tigers should be able to use that to their advantage. Attacking the zone in this game is going to be huge for the Tigers pitching staff. If they can do that, the Tigers will win this game.

Final Blue Jays-Tigers Prediction & Pick

These are two very good pitchers. They may not be performing at their best right now, but they have the capability of shutting a team down anytime they step on the rubber. I would not be surprised to see one or both of them do just that in this game. I do like the Tigers to win this game, though. Flaherty is having a bit of a better season, and the Blue Jays offense is not very trustworthy at the moment. The Tigers moneyline is my pick for this game.
