The Boston Celtics are reportedly engaged with the New Orleans Pelicans on a potential Anthony Davis trade, despite the warning from the All-Star forward's agent that he'll be leaving them next year.

This is one of the reasons why the Celtics are reluctant to part ways with some of their assets; knowing that Davis could leave them in the summer of 2020 have made them half-hearted about giving away a lot of young players and draft picks for just a rental, according to Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach.

It is widely known that the Celtics have the shiniest collection of assets for a potential Davis deal, but there are questions about how far they would open their treasure chest. One league source said the uncertainty surrounding Davis’s long-term future in Boston has thus far limited the Celtics’ willingness to overwhelm New Orleans with an offer.

It is widely known that the Pelicans would want Jayson Tatum to be included in a trade package from the Celtics. However, since the team's front office now believes that Kyrie Irving is leaving and that Davis won't be committing long-term, they might eventually pull out from the negotiations.

Of course, there is still some glimpse of optimism that the Celtics can convince Irving to stay if they acquire AD, which is why they are still pushing for a trade with the Pelicans. But with the NBA draft less than a week away, Boston will have to act fast. The Los Angeles Lakers have already assembled a pretty enticing deal that includes the fourth overall pick. It is now time for them to counter that offer.

Or as previously mentioned, just move on.
