The Chicago Sky have faced controversy during the early part of the 2024 WNBA season. One attention-grabbing event was Chennedy Carter's controversial flagrant foul on Caitlin Clark during Chicago's June 1st matchup against the Fever. Carter declined to comment on the foul during the post-game press conference. Her handling of the incident has drawn an honest take from Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

Green admired Carter for playing Caitlin Clark tough but wanted her to own her actions more.

“Love what you did. I don't love how you went to the press conference and wouldn't answer a question about it, quite frankly,” the Warriors forward said via the Draymond Green Show. “If you want to understand how this thing goes, I'll give you a little advice. You're going to take on the villain role, be that enforcer on your team, great love it…you can't dodge the questions. You go to the press conference, you answer the questions.”

“You did what you did. Stand on it,” Green added. “[If] I go to the podium, I'm not gonna not answer a question about Rudy Gobert or whoever else. Stand on it.”

Draymond Green did not shy away from using his scuffle with Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic as an example. He answered questions about the incident after it happened. Green emphasized that no matter what response Carter or any enforcer gives, it is essential to at least address questions on heated incidents.

The Warriors veteran preferred Carter spoke on the interaction at the post-game press conference rather than going on X to express herself. The talented Sky guard may not have given a response at the moment, but she did clarify herself two days later.

Sky, Chennedy Carter continue to deal with Caitlin Clark-Fever incident

Carter addressed the response she received from the Clark incident after Chicago's practice on Monday.

“I'm seeing a lot of things — players, fans not understanding who I am as a player,” Carter said. “You have to understand me as a person, too. And don't just look at one tape and form an opinion about me. I'm truly a passionate person about the game, and I'm genuine. You can ask all my teammates, they've gotten to know me. They know the real Chennedy Carter. So I'm just saying, don't form an opinion off of one little clip. And you didn't even see the whole game and/or the play that led to that.”

Carter wants to move past the incident and continue being an offensive sparkplug for the Sky. The fourth-year guard averages 12.5 points, 2.8 assists, 2.5 assists, and 10 steals through eight games. She makes slashes to the rim and pull-up jumpers look effortless. Moreover, her defensive activity often results in easy transition bucks for Chicago.

Carter led the Sky with 16 points in the team's 88-75 loss to Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty on Tuesday night. She wants to ride the momentum of her performance into Chicago's interconference matchup against the Washington Mystics on Thursday.

All in all, Chennedy Carter will learn from her Caitlin Clark altercation and continue her stout play. Draymond Green made some solid points, but Carter is not focused on anything other than being the best positive leader possible for the young Sky.
