The exuberance of being selected first overall did not last long for Ben Simmons due to a tragic accident this weekend.

The Associated Press reports that Simmons' cousin, Zachary Simmons, was killed in a hit-and-run in the New Jersey town of Hoboken on Saturday morning. He was just 21 years old.

The cousins had a close relationship; Zachary was in attendance at the draft in Brooklyn last Thursday, celebrating with Ben when he was picked by the Philadelphia 76ers.

This is a horrible tragedy that Ben and the rest of the Simmons family has to face. According to Zachary's mom, he was walking home from a friend's birthday party when the accident happened. Police are still searching for the driver and vehicle that left Zachary behind after striking.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ben Simmons and his family as they cope with this horrible loss.
