Celtics point guard Kemba Walker logged 29 minutes at this season's All-Star Game. That's quite a hefty workload, considering the fact that he was on a minutes restriction earlier this month. Following the matchup, the former UConn standout had his knee drained and received an injection to reduce swelling, according to a report from Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Making things a bit worse is the fact that Walker played 46 minutes in a double-overtime victory over the Clippers just before the All-Star break.

Walker is going to be held out of Friday night's game against the Timberwolves due to the aforementioned swelling in his knee, which also caused him to miss time earlier this month. However, Celtics head coach Brad Stevens believes the injury will not be long-term in nature.

The fact that the Celtics will be without Walker for Friday night's matchup is unfortunate, as he's an important piece of the team's starting rotation. In his 46 appearances this season, the veteran point guard has racked up averages of 21.8 points on 42.9 percent shooting from the field (38.8 percent from beyond the arc), 5.0 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 steal in 32.2 minutes per outing.

For now, Walker should be considered “questionable” for Sunday's game against the Lakers. If he is ruled out, Brad Wanamaker and Romeo Langford would likely see upticks in their usage rates.

Friday night's mathcup between the Celtics and Timberwolves is scheduled to tip inside the Target Center at 8:00 p.m. ET. Boston has won eight of its last nine, while Minnesota will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid.
