Boston Celtics stars Kyrie Irving and Marcus Smart made plenty of spectacular plays in their recent win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, but one epic sequence takes the cake for them.

During the third quarter of the matchup, the Celtics took advantage of a mad scramble to create one, if not the best highlight of the young NBA season. From a defensive effort from Marcus Smart, the sequence ended with an alley-oop play from Kyrie Irving to Jayson Tatum.

Here's the full play:

After the match, Irving and Smart talked about the play and revealed that it showed a lot about the Celtics.

“Oh,” Irving told Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe. “We’ll have a few more sequences like that . . . but it just shows you the cohesion we’re still building, and just trusting our guys out there.”

Moreover, Smart said that such plays are important for the team, particularly in a game because it gives the team a much-needed momentum.

“Those are the plays that if the opposing team makes those plays on you, that’s devastating for you,” Smart explained. “That’s when the breath comes out of your body at the gym and the energy goes down. And for the team that’s making that play, it brings the energy up and gives them the momentum they need.”

Sure enough, that play from the Celtics won't be forgotten any time soon. Boston is still struggling — based on their standards — so playing like that and showing great chemistry are undoubtedly critical as they try to take over the Eastern Conference.

It remains to be seen if they can provide another epic highlight reel material but as Irving declared, that won't be the last. Fans just have to wait.
