Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr. has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The NBA conducted a league-wide testing of players before teams travel to Orlando for the resumption of Training Camp 2.0, as players have only been allowed at their own practice facilities in a limited basis.

Jones, who is asymptomatic, according to people familiar with his testing, will have to self-isolate for 14 days and test negative twice before he can travel to Walt Disney World to join his teammates.

League protocol established that Jones “must rest and refrain from exercise training for two weeks from the later of the date of the first PCR test and/or resolution of viral symptoms.”

According to a recent NBA memo, travel to the league's “bubble” setting at Walt Disney World will be allowed, “only for those who (i) have not returned a positive test for COVID-19 since June 23, (ii) have tested positive, but thereafter have been medically cleared to travel (based on lack of symptoms, at least two consecutive negative PCR tests, and clearance to discontinue isolation), (iii) report no symptoms on day of travel, and (iv) do not live with a household member who has or recently had COVID-19 or symptoms.”

Jones still plans to join his teammates and play once the NBA season resumes on July 30.

The young forward is playing for a lot, as he's expected to receive a beefy raise from the Heat or any other team looking to acquire him. Jones is averaging 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds, having started 15 of his 51 appearances.
