New Utah Jazz General Manager Justin Zanik only has one goal for his team: to win an NBA championship. Just like any other team in the association, the Jazz aim to be the only team standing in June, lifting the Larry O'Brien trophy.

“Every offseason requires reflection on the previous seasons, where we stand within the landscape of the NBA, and what are the avenues and where are the places that we can continue to do it. Our only goal here is to continue to move forward, and put the most competitive [team out there], and continue on this path,” Zanik said per Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune. “We have critical decisions that will be coming up; we’ll be doing them as a group. The motivation comes from competition, right? Within the NBA. We want to compete. We want to be the last team standing at the end of the day.”

The Jazz announced last Friday that they promoted Zanik from assistant general manager to full-time GM. With the power he now holds in the Utah front office, he looks hell-bent to bring the team to the top.

Utah has established itself as perennial playoff contenders over the past years. They have a solid core built around sophomore star Donovan Mitchell and defensive anchor Rudy Gobert.

As good as they are defensively though, the Jazz's problems lie on the offensive end. They had the second-best defensive rating in the league behind the Milwaukee Bucks, but they are just in the middle of the pack in terms on offense (15th in ORTG).

The Jazz lack a secondary shot creator behind Donovan Mitchell, and they struggled with this in their first round series loss against the Houston Rockets. It's clear that improving the offensive make-up of this roster should be priority number one for Zanik.
