The New York Knicks pulled off an epic victory against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday in what turned out to be one of the most memorable opening night matchups in the history of the NBA. As it turns out, however, Julius Randle was a little too ecstatic after their double-overtime victory, and it cost him quite a bit.

In celebrating the Knicks' hard-fought win, Randle threw the ball to the capacity crowd in Madison Square Garden. The NBA did not like his antics one bit and decided to slap the reigning Most Improved Player with a hefty $15,000 fine (h/t Fred Katz of The Athletic):

Randle threw the ball in a celebratory manner and the Knicks star had no ill intentions in doing so. Nevertheless, rules are rules. In this case, his post-game gesture just cost him 15 big ones.

If you ask Randle, however, he'll probably say it was worth it. The Knicks put forth an amazing effort against a relentless Celtics side in an epic battle that needed two overtimes to determine a winner.

Randle himself was outstanding in the win, logging a team-high 35 points to go along with eight rebounds, nine assists, and three blocks. If this was a preview of things to come for Randle and the Knicks this season then they're going to be a real problem in the East.
