It’s been a while since the New York Knicks last had a winning season, as once again, they are coming off a frustrating campaign in which they finished with an ugly 29-53 record. They would have had a better record if their unicorn, Kristaps Porzingis, was not limited to only 48 games due to an ACL injury back in February.

The Knicks, obviously, wish they will have Porzingis back just in time for the start of the 2018-19 season, but that’s unlikely to be the case, as he’s expected to sit out NBA games until December.

That is not a lock, however, as according to Knicks general manager Scott Perry during an appearance on In The Key Podcast, his team is still in the process of determining a definite date for the sweet-shooting 7-foot-3 power forward’s return.

As told by Ian Begley of ESPN:

Knicks GM Scott Perry, speaking on the In the Key podcast with BJ Armstrong and Gerald Brown, reiterates that NYK hopes [to] have a more specific timetable for Kristaps Porzingis' return from ACL surgery in early September. Porzingis is expected to be out until at least early December

With this latest update about Porzingis, it’s possible that the Knicks will have a very slim frontcourt at the start of the 2018-19 season. The Knicks have a number of pressing concerns to deal with this offseason, including the expiring contracts of big men Enes Kanter and Kyle O’Quinn. If both those guys leave, New York is going to find replacements in the free agent market – or in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Kristaps Porzingis is about to enter the last year of his rookie deal, which expires at the end of the next season.
