The New York Knicks, much like the other Delete 8 teams who missed out the season's resumption in Orlando, are holding their own mini-camp as they look forward to the 2020-21 season, whenever that may be. Last year's no. 3 overall pick RJ Barrett is reportedly making waves in their practices at the New York bubble, new Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau revealed via Marc Berman of The New York Post.

“Today, he had a terrific practice,’’ new Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. “Today was his best practice. He was rebounding the ball extremely well, he made plays, did a great job with that. So I just want him to concentrate on improvement.

The defensive-minded coach praised the Canadian's work ethic and willingness to put in the extra work.

“The thing that pleased me most was that he came in prior to even Phase 1 and spent time with us and then he was there for Phase 1 and then came in for Phase 2,’’ Thibodeau said. “He’s a pro’s pro. He’s in great shape. He’s willing to work and do anything that you ask.

Ah, music to the ears of Knicks fans. Die-hard New Yorkers certainly hope Barrett fulfills the star potential many projected for the former Duke standout.

RJ Barrett had an underwhelming rookie campaign, to say the least. He averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on just 40.2 percent shooting from the field in 56 games.

Nonetheless, Barrett was just beginning to hit his stride the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly halted his debut season. He played much better after the All-Star break, putting up more production with better efficiency.

Knicks fans hope his emergence in the bubble practices translates into a better sophomore campaign, where he could further flash his star potential.
