The New York Knicks are still eyeing a potential successor to interim head coach Mike Miller, as the new front office led by Leon Rose could soon bring in its own hires. Tom Thibodeau, who has been without a coaching job since being fired from the Minnesota Timberwolves last season, can virtually “taste” this new opportunity.

“He really wants the Knick job, he can taste it and he may even be in the lead,” a Thibodeau confidant told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Thibodeau is reportedly without a place of residence at the moment, traveling from place to place in true nomadic fashion.

He has been seen taking on consulting gigs around the NBA with other fellow coaches as well as several appearances on NBA TV to keep himself in the public eye as many former coaches tend to do.

While not traveling, Thibodeau resides at his brother’s place in New England, awaiting the next call.

The Knicks were likely doomed to fail this season regardless of their coach, considering the poor roster construction after putting all their chips in a bombastic free agency, which never became a reality. New York resorted to signing a barrage of power forwards in the summer upon failing to reel in a star-caliber player, ultimately trading their leading scorer at the deadline in Marcus Morris.

Mark Jackson, his broadcasting partner Jeff Van Gundy, Jason Kidd, and many others have been spitballed as potential candidates to get the Knicks job. Thibodeau could be among them as well, as he is salivating for the chance to get that job, even if his reputation with young players isn't the best to date.
