Veteran shooting guard Dion Waiters is signing a minimum deal with the Los Angeles Lakers for the rest of the season, per Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium is reporting that the Lakers will waive Waiters the second he becomes a distraction off the court:
Can confirm the Lakers plan to sign Dion Waiters for the remainder of the season. He worked out for the team on Monday. He'll receive a minimum deal and will take the Lakers' final roster spot.

Sources: Waiters, his agent Rich Paul and the Lakers had several conversations, they have been positive, and it's been made clear among all: This must work out for him — otherwise, Lakers reserve the option to release him. https://t.co/rGL3xlxFvo

Dion Waiters will earn $503,656 if he signs his contract on Friday. The Lakers will have a $375,385 cap hit on the shooting guard. Waiters was previously fined $1.4M from the Miami Heat and will recoup 36% of the money lost.

Waiters played in only three games for the Miami Heat this season because of suspensions. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Earlier this season, Waiters suffered a panic attack on the Heat charter plane after consuming a THC-infused edible. Those type of things won't be tolerated on the Lakers, who are championship contenders with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way.
Article Continues BelowWaiters averaged 12.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season for the Heat while shooting 41.4 percent from the field, 37.7 percent from beyond the arc and just 50.0 percent from the free-throw line. He missed the first 35 games of the season because of the ankle surgery he underwent in the 2017-18 campaign.
The Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference. They take on the Milwaukee Bucks at home on Friday.
