Marc-Andre Fleury is still getting lots of attention, even at this stage of his career. The veteran NHL goaltender, who last played for the Minnesota Wild, is about to hit the free-agent market, with Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic floating the idea that the Toronto Maple Leafs could be among those kicking the tires on the possibility of adding the future Hall of Famer to their roster.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Toronto was one of those teams. Fleury in the end was willing to go to Toronto at the trade deadline in March and we know the Blackhawks and the Maple Leafs were cooking up a deal that fell apart at the time. Which paved the way for the Wild to swoop in and get him on deadline day.

But I do think Fleury would be open to the Leafs among other contenders.

The Maple Leafs don't have a big room to operate in terms of salary cap space, as they only have a bit over $6.4 million to spend, which makes it unlikely for them to keep goalie Jack Campbell, who is a soon-to-be unrestricted free agent. Fleury could also just be a contingency plan for the Maple Leafs, who should at least still try to retain the services of Campbell. Fleury, however, would give Maple Leafs a proven postseason performer, something they can't really say about Campbell.

Fleury's accomplishments in the NHL dwarf most active goalies' achievements. He has won the Stanley Cup three times, all with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also has a Vezina Trophy winner.
